"It Ticks Me Off!"
(Journals of a Golf Teaching Professional)
(Journals of a Golf Teaching Professional)
A treatise to alleviate the confusion for those golfers wanting to play better.
275 pages of instruction, both what to do and what not to do. Diagrams assist with understanding alignments, ball positions, putt reading, face angle consequences, and course/golf school practice area designs.
Have you read, heard or been told you should “keep your head down”?
Have you read, heard or been told you must “accelerate” when you putt?
Have you read, heard or been told when putting you should “have your eyes over the ball”?
Have you read, heard or been told you should have an “open stance” in the bunker?
Have you read, heard or been told when reading a putt you should “aim at the apex”?
These pieces of advice are not correct! And if you are heeding them they are keeping you from playing better.
This book is for you if:
You have ever been confused after reading a golf article or instructional tip. You play golf, and want to get better.
You have ever had a golf lesson. You watch golf on TV.
An avid golfer for 36 years and a full-time golf teacher for the past 15 years, Jim Umbarger finally had enough of constantly hearing the bogus and incorrect golf
tips and advice on TV, magazines, websites, and newspapers. So he started journaling … and just kept writing … until he completed writing the content within.
Using his insightful perspective, he shares with you the bad advice that has been communicated through many avenues, and informs you of the correct thoughts and items you should practice if you want to be a better golfer.
Jim began his professional teaching career at Glen Lakes Golf Course in Glendale, Arizona, where he enjoyed giving lessons and clinics to all levels of golfers
and became Director of Instruction. Then for almost seven years he taught the short game for Dave Pelz Schools and Clinics, based at Pinehurst and Reynolds Plantation. While at Reynolds Plantation he was also named the Senior Instructor for Swing Technology Golf Schools.
Jim has played sports, especially golf, most of his life. He was an excellent high school baseball pitcher, starting the California All-Star game in 1971.
He then played baseball three years at Arizona State University, earning All-America honors. Jim pitched in the Major Leagues for the Texas Rangers and Oakland A’s. And while pitching for the Rochester Redwings in 1981, he pitched the 23rd – 32nd innings of the longest game in history. Through all of his sports experiences he has
developed a keen eye and keen mind for observing and analyzing motions. And he’ll share his insights with you in this book. He currently teaches golf in the Phoenix area.
